  1.           IBM AntiVirus data file update version 2.5B
  2.  
  3. The data files in this update can be used to update IBM AntiVirus
  4. version 2.5 so that it will detect (and sometimes, repair) viruses found
  5. since version 2.5 was released.  This update can be safely applied to
  6. systems to which previous updates have been applied.  We do not
  7. recommend applying this update to versions of IBM AntiVirus older than
  8. IBM AntiVirus version 2.4.
  9.  
  10. COMPLICATIONS:
  11.  
  12. AV25B.ZIP can be used to update IBM AntiVirus version 2.5, and IBM
  13. AntiVirus versions 2.4.1 and 2.4.  We do not recommend applying it to
  14. older versions of IBM AntiVirus.
  15.  
  16. The Laroux virus, that infects Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, will only
  17. be detected if you tell IBM AntiVirus to check all files, or add "*.xls"
  18. to the list of filetypes checked.  In IBMAV, select "Check", then "Check
  19. system", then "Selected file patterns", then "Add standard patterns",
  20. then enter "*.xls" in the "File pattern" field, then "Add", then "OK",
  21. then "OK".  Then update the automated check settings, with "Setup", then
  22. "Automated Check", then "Check options", then "Selected file patterns",
  23. then "Add standard patterns", then enter "*.xls" in the "File pattern"
  24. field, then "Add", then "OK", then "OK".  IBMAVSP users should select
  25. "all files" for checking.
  26.  
  27. If this update is applied to IBMAV version 2.4.1 or earlier, then
  28. IBMAV version 2.5 is installed over IBMAV 2.4.1, then this update
  29. should be reapplied.

  31. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
  32.  
  33. * IBM AntiVirus 2.5 users:
  34.  
  35.   - Put the file AV25B.ZIP on a diskette or a disk drive
  36.   - Start IBM AntiVirus
  37.   - Select "Update" from the "Update" menu
  38.   - Enter the drive letter, directory, and name of the file AV25B.ZIP
  39.   - Press the "OK" button, and wait until the files are copied
  40.  
  41. * IBM AntiVirus 2.4.1 users:
  42.  
  43.   - Put the files included in this zipfile onto a diskette.
  44.   - Put the diskette in a diskette drive.
  45.  
  46.   - Start IBM AntiVirus.
  47.   - Click on "Update".
  48.   - Click on "Update".
  49.   - Change the path in the update popup if you put the diskette
  50.     someplace other than "A:\"
  51.   - Press the "OK" button. Wait until the files are copied.

  53. * Enterprise PC and LAN administrators (IBM AntiVirus 2.5):
  54.  
  55.   - Refer to "Chapter 5. Updating and Upgrading IBM AntiVirus in an
  56.     Enterprise" in the "IBM AntiVirus Adminstrator's Guide", or
  57.  
  58.   - Refer to "Step 12. Update IBM AntiVirus" in the README.TXT file
  59.     on the IBM AntiVirus Enterprise Edition CD-ROM

  61. * Enterprise PC and LAN administrators (IBM AntiVirus 2.4.1):

  63.   If you are supporting a run-from-the-LAN IBMAV installation, you must
  64.   replace virsig.lst, verv.vdb, shsig.lst and dtsig.lst in the IBM
  65.   AntiVirus execution directory on the LAN server.
  66.  
  67.   LAN administrators may want to examine the IAVEXIT examples in the IBM
  68.   AntiVirus Administrator's Guide; the examples show how IAVEXIT can be
  69.   used to automatically update IBM AntiVirus data files on client
  70.   machines.  LAN administrators may also want to peruse the section on
  71.   data file updates in the "IBM AntiVirus Adminstrator's Guide".

  73. * After installation:

  75.   After the data files have been updated, the next time that files
  76.   are checked by IBM AntiVirus, they will autmatically be checked
  77.   thoroughly to make sure that they don't have new viruses only
  78.   detected by the new data files. This will take longer than a
  79.   typical run of IBM AntiVirus.
